Artist Statement
As a painter of place and time, nature has always provided the basis for my work. My main interest being our interaction with the natural world in its cyclical rhythms. Scale both literal and suggested is set against the epochal progress of deep time which provides the context of where we are collectively. In order to see this, one must step away objectively to even glimpse the larger process flow.
Hopefully, the works will invite a certain way of seeing. Their scale is such that the viewer must come close to fully appreciate what they are about. The micro and macro are common themes - a large world depicted in minute scale. I want them to act as visual haiku - spare and lean, full of nuance and suggestion. In short, a reflection of the great cycle of life in time, flux and transition.
